Burning is an exothermic oxidation reaction that requires three elements: combustible material, an oxidizer (usually oxygen), and heat. Generally, polymer materials decompose into flammable gases under the effect of heat before reacting with oxygen. Therefore, under burning conditions, the specific heat capacity, thermal conductivity, latent heat of phase change, and decomposition temperature of polymers significantly influence the combustion reaction. Within a certain range, increasing the mass fraction of eco-friendly PP flame retardants enhances the flame-retardant properties of the final product. The mechanism of halogen flame retardants involves their decomposition at high temperatures to release HX and X, which can react with active intermediates in the flame.
