What are the commonly used flame retardants for fabrics?

According to their application methods, they can generally be divided into two categories: blended flame retardants for fabrics and copolymerized flame retardants for fabrics. Blended flame retardants are added to polymer melts or solutions before spinning and then mixed during processing to achieve flame-retardant effects.

Halogen-free flame retardants are cost-effective, have high thermal stability, good dispersion, low toxicity, and smoke suppression, making them widely used. Metal hydrates such as aluminum hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide mainly rely on the steam released and the formation of non-flammable coatings like alumina and magnesia when heated to achieve flame-retardant effects. These flame retardants are non-toxic, smoke-suppressing, environmentally friendly, and highly efficient, representing an important future direction for fabric flame retardants.
